Exercising faith is an everyday universal human experience

We all have placed our faith in something. The true question is, what is the object of your faith?

1. Faith Outside of Christ

Faith – confidence or trust in a person or thing

  • What drives our faith is a pursuit of something greater
    • We are all seeking love, satisfaction, purpose and identity
  • Faith placed outside of Christ leads to us being dead in the trespasses and sins in which we once walked

2. Faith in Christ

"Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times." – Martin Luther

Jesus Christ is the embodiment of God’s grace through his life, death and resurrection

Through faith in God’s grace we have:

  • Salvation
  • Love and identity
  • Satisfaction
  • Purpose

Jesus Christ is the only object of our faith who can grant salvation and a true life of fulfillment

3. The Effects of Faith in Christ Alone

Faith has both internal and external effects on our good works

How Faith Shapes our Motivation

  • The world’s view of good works
    • A way to earn salvation and love from God
    • Every good work has selfish motivation as a product of this view
  • God’s view of good works
    • We receive goods works done on our behalf
    • Our good works are a result of having received salvation and love

How Faith Shapes How we do Good Works

  • Faith creates a dependence on God
    • Dependence demands listening
    • We are dependent on the Spirit to enable us to carryout good works
  • Faith Gives Confidence and Contentment
    • Every one of us is to participate in the good works of the Church
      • We are confident God will bring this to completion
    • Every one of us has a unique set of good works prepared for us
      • We can be confident in where and what we’ve been called to
