The Mess of Doubt and Uncertainty

Back to all sermons A Beautiful Mess

Date: April 30, 2017

Speaker: Jay O'Brien

Series: A Beautiful Mess

Scripture: John 20:24–20:31

Hear the invitation to be honest in our search for truth

“The dishonest doubter is actually rather lazy. He doesn’t respond to God’s revelation by examining the claims. He is closed-minded, refusing to consider the possibility that something exists which could challenge his comprehension. He simply shrugs off new claims with a flippant “that’s impossible” or “that sounds dumb.” Those statements aren’t arguments; they’re blind assertions….The honest doubter, on the other hand, will ask genuine questions.” - Tim Keller

Believe Jesus is the one worthy of calling Lord

John 6:53-54 - So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

John 6:66-67 - After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him. So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?”

John 6:68-69 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
